Two years ago Ladies Code was riding home in rainy weather from one of their late night performances on KBS. It was September 3, 2014 and the group’s manager was the one driving the van at over 80 miles per hour on a 65 mile per hour road.

Dangerously speeding in the bad weather caused the manager to hydroplane into a guardrail. The accident left member EunB dead at age 21.

Remaining members were rushed to the hospital. Ashley and Zuny managed to leave with minor injuries while SoJung had some surgery for some major injuries.

Rise

Member Rise had remained unconscious many days after the accident and had much surgery done for her severe head and leg injuries. However, Rise passed away at age 23 over the weekend following the accident.

When news came out, the phrase #RIPRise was a number one topic to trend on Twitter worldwide.

Ashley and Zuny still attended EunB’s funeral on September 5th and were seen in tears.

KBS payed tribute to the group by broadcasting the group’s final performance that took place hours before the accident. Aired on September 15 as an ‘Open Concert’, KBS broadcasted the performance with their condolences for the lost members.

Ladies Code’s manager was charged and was going to jail for allegedly causing the fatal car accident that claimed two of the member’s lives. The manager is 26 years old and is only being identified by his last name, Park.

Park was booked for excessive speeding in dangerous conditions. When Park previously testified, he stated that the back wheel had come off of the van and caused the accident. However, it was investigated that the wheel came off as a result of the accident and the van colliding with the guardrail.

The remaining three members were discharged from the hospital in late October.

In tribute to the lost members, Ladies Code released two songs. “I’m Fine Thank You” came out soon after the accident, and “I’ll Smile Even If It Hurts” was released on the one year anniversary of member Rise.

While, the members recovered, Kpop fans gave their support by sending their tribute song, “I’m Fine Thank You” to number one on real time charts. This achievement was symbolic to the group’s goal for reaching the top of charts.

After 17 months of recovery, Ladies Code finally released a teaser trailer that announced their new album, Mystery. The album showcased Ladies Code’s matured voice.
