The other day I went to the mall and discovered a very interesting tea. The name of the booth was Black Pearl Tea and sold pearl milk tea.
The pearl milk tea or boba tea is a Taiwanese tea based drink mixed with milk, fruit and chewy tapioca balls. Many people may know this drink as bubble tea, however the that is not the actual name of this tea.
bubble tea is a strong tea that has been shaken to create bubbles on the top without dispersing. So the bubble and boba tea are very different drinks.
The texture is strange at first but can be addicting once you get used to it. This tea gives an overall refreshing sensation. It comes in a cup with an airtight seal that is then penetrated by a straw big enough for tapioca to go through.

Boba tea comes in many flavors like green tea, mango and peach. The most popular black tea versions are oolong and Earl Grey.
The green tea flavor is my personal favorite and I would describe the drink as a delicious, energizing drink.
This drink is very popular in Taiwan and has gained some interest in the U.S. Because of it’s popularity, the drink can even be found in the “Instant Boba Tea” form.
The pearl milk tea can come with many substitutes for the tapioca as well. One could request honey, coconut jelly and custard pudding.
So the next time you're out, find a Vietnamese or Thai restaurant near you and try this refreshing drink for some energy.
What flavors have you found to be your personal favorites? Do you prefer the bubble or boba tea?
